Prelaunch Notice: PlugPing has not yet launched. This document describes both the current prelaunch website and our planned approach to data handling when the app becomes available. PlugPing is designed to remind Tesla owners when they forget to plug in their vehicle at home. This page describes our current prelaunch website and our intended approach to privacy when the app launches.

PlugPing is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Tesla, Inc. Tesla is a trademark of Tesla, Inc.

Part A: This Website (Current)

This prelaunch marketing website is a static site. Here's what that means for your privacy:

What This Website Does

  • No user accounts: This website does not have user registration, login, or account functionality.
  • No forms or data collection: There are no signup forms, waitlists, or contact forms. The only way to reach us is via email at [email protected].
  • No cookies set by us: This website does not set cookies.

Analytics and Hosting

This website does not use analytics scripts, and Cloudflare Web Analytics is not enabled for it.

This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. As part of serving and protecting the site, Cloudflare may process standard request data (such as IP address, user agent, and requested URL). We make no claims about Cloudflare's specific data handling or retention practices. For details, see Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

Part B: The PlugPing App (Planned)

The following describes our intended approach to data handling when the PlugPing app launches. This is not yet finalized and is subject to change. A complete privacy policy will be published before the app becomes available.

Intended Product Behavior

When PlugPing launches, the app is intended to:

  • Remind you when your Tesla is at your saved home location but not plugged in
  • Show your battery percentage and charging status
  • Support both scheduled reminders (e.g., evening checks) and on-demand status checks

Planned Tesla API Permissions

We plan to request only read-only permissions from the Tesla Fleet API:

  • openid — Standard authentication
  • offline_access — To work without constant re-authentication
  • vehicle_device_data — To read battery level and charging status
  • vehicle_location — To check if your vehicle is at your saved home location

Permissions We Do Not Intend to Request

We do not plan to request permissions to control your vehicle, including:

  • Unlock, lock, or start your vehicle
  • Control charging (start, stop, or adjust limits)
  • Open doors, trunk, frunk, or windows
  • Control climate, lights, or any other functions

Intended Location Use

Our intended use of vehicle location data:

  • You save a home location in the app
  • At reminder time (scheduled or on-demand), PlugPing checks whether your vehicle is near that saved location
  • A reminder is only sent if the vehicle appears to be at home and is not plugged in

The design goal is to check location only at specific reminder times, not continuously. However, technical implementation details (including any temporary caching or processing) are not yet finalized.

Planned Data Storage

We anticipate storing:

  • Your Tesla authentication tokens (server-side)
  • Your saved home location
  • Basic account information needed to provide the service
To Be Determined: The following details will be finalized before launch:
  • Specific data retention periods
  • Account deletion process and timeline
  • Data export options
  • Applicable privacy regulations and how we will comply
  • Third-party services used (analytics, error tracking, etc.)

Your Rights

For this prelaunch website: there is no user data to access, modify, or delete because we don't collect any.

For the planned app: details on data access, deletion, and user rights will be published in our final privacy policy before launch. Before launch, we will publish instructions for disconnecting PlugPing, including how to revoke its access through your Tesla account.
